Our Meetings in 2016

January 2016 – Emma McColm – Kendal College

What an amazing turnout for our inaugural event of the year! Almost 40 of us gathered at Kendal College on 21 January to participate in a lively session led by Emma McColm of Lakes Coaching, designed to increase our motivation levels for the year ahead. Most stayed on to enjoy a delicious lunch afterwards in the college restaurant. A super start to the new season’s events.

February 2016 – Cressida Allwood – The Laura Ashley Belsfield Hotel

I think I speak for everyone who attended our February event when I say I was genuinely in awe of Cressida’s exploits on a bike – in fact, I’m never going to moan about being tired again! Not sure I’m up to cycling round Peru but Cressida certainly made me appreciate the joys of a pair of wheels and the open countryside. Thanks to the Laura Ashley Belsfield for hosting us and, of course, to our inspirational speaker!

March 2016 – Evening of Celebration – Netherwood Hotel

Everyone had a fab time at LBN’s evening of celebration on Friday 18 March 2016. Thanks to the Netherwood Hotel for hosting so admirably, to our speaker, Melanie Bryan, for entertaining us so wonderfully, to Lakeland for supporting us with a generous donation, to Lisa from Ginger Bakers for creating a special anniversary cake, to Val for the magical table decorations and to all who attended for helping us to make it a most memorable evening.

April 2016 – Helen Cullen-Williams – Brigsteer Village Hall

Helen Cullen-Williams from Colour Me Beautiful joined us at a charity fundraiser on Thu 21 April at Brigsteer Hall to talk on the subject of ‘The Power of Dressing’

Helen’s interactive talk guided us through how to look and feel your best. She gave us a great demonstration using some of the ladies on how wearing your best colours enhances our looks.  She helped us work out what our colour types were and what personality style suited each of us.

It was a great evening and we raised a total of £300 which we are splitting between our two charities, The Birchall Trust and Tiger Lily Trust.   Thank you all very much for attending this event!

May 2016 – Amy Beeton – AGM – Mintworks Kendal

Thank you to everyone who attended our AGM and talk.

Many thanks to Diane Nowell from Copywritten for being super and supportive Chairing our group over the past 2 years.

We would also like  to wish Debra Jessett from Inspirational Ceremonies all the best in her new role as Chair and to the new Committee, who consist of Emma McColm from Lakes Coaching, Sandra Frazer from Frazer PA Services, Marian Greavson from Blue Moose Kitchen, Joanne De Vries from Lakes PA and Caroline Rose from Caroline Rose Management. We look forward to organising some inspirational and exciting events.

Amy Beeton gave a truly inspiring talk; we were with her every step of the way up AND down Everest as well as sharing her challenges along the way. Thank you everyone! Here’s to a great year to come!

June 2016 – Annie Weir – Blackwell, The Arts and Crafts House

On Thursday 16th June 2016 we had our meeting with local author Annie Weir talking about her journey from secret writer to finally realising her dream of publishing a book.  She talked about how important it is that we never give up on those dreams no matter how old we are or how long it takes us.  For those who stayed behind and had a look around the house and it’s exhibitions, hope you all enjoyed yourselves.

July 2016 – Summer Social – Holker Hall Estate

This year we had our summer social in the courtyard at Holker Hall. Members and guests mingled and enjoyed the lovely setting. Thanks to our LBN member Clare Malley Photography for kindly taking this photograph of some of the lovely ladies from our network.  Hope you all had a great time and the committee hope you will join us for some exciting meetings coming up in the next few months.

September 2016 – Lisa Smith – Ginger Bakers – The Gateway Inn, Kendal

What an uplifting, heart-warming story Lisa of Ginger Bakers told us at last month’s LBN meeting. She shared the ups and downs of the business and how the 2015 floods actually helped to focus her resolve to come back bigger and better!  Great turn-out and a lovely venue at Gateway Inn at Kendal.

October 2016 – Jackie Twigge – Town Hall, Kendal

We had a great meeting in October when Jackie Twigge, Poet, came to talk about her business Verse with Vision.  Her passion for what she does was evident as she conducted her entire presentation in rhyme, starting with an LBN role call.  Jackie offers a bespoke service, providing well-honed words for any occasion from birthdays and weddings to christenings and eulogies.  As well as being a wordsmith Jackie is also a keen photographer and adds her own images to her words, hence Verse with Vision.  Jackie has kindly put a few words together about her experience of the night.
Enjoyable my evening
With the LBN
A thank you rhyme, this morning
Of course I’m going to pen!
The chance for Verse with Vision
To share with all of you
Details of my business
And what it is I do……
Was, for me, important
I hope that on the night
My rhyming presentation
Was, for YOU, just ‘write’!
I am always grateful
When encouragement I hear
And for that, my thanks today
To ALL of you sincere

November 2016 – Beth Curl – MBTI – Laura Ashley, The Belsfield Hotel, Bowness on Windermere

Our November meeting will featured Beth Curl from Hyproformance.

The workshop was interactive and Beth guided you through a self-assessment to identify your own preferred MBTI Type.  We learnt about your own preferred ways of working and communicating and identified how others you work and live with, have different preferences. These insights helped us to understand others better and to find ways of working more effectively with them.

December 2016 – Christmas Social – The Villa in Levens

Thanks to everyone who joined us for our Christmas Social at the Villa on the 8th of December.  We had a lovely evening with many who attended saying afterwards how much they enjoyed themselves.

A big thank you to our members who had a stall or donated prizes for our raffle, also to our own Mother Christmas, Caroline Rose, who provided a fun-filled Christmas quiz.

We are delighted to announce that as the final fundraiser for our charities, the Tigerlily Trust and the Birchall Trust, we raised a total of £180.
