A Technique for Life

Erica Donnison

I work with people using the Alexander Technique and the MBTI personality type questionnaire (the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator). A combination of these enables me to help people find out more about themselves and bring about positive change both physically and mentally. I also work with people and their horses to help them form more effective partnerships using the Tellington TTouch Equine Awareness Method (TTEAM).

Using the Alexander Technique, I work with people who find that pain or

tension in their bodies is preventing them from reaching their full

potential in whatever they want to do.

I help people get control over pain and discomfort associated with poor posture and muscular tension. Improvements in posture and increased freedom of movement result in addition to the reduction in pain. Recent research has shown that one-to-one lessons in the Alexander Technique are a very effective long-term solution for people with chronic low back pain. If this is you, or you feel you need to improve your posture to be able to move more freely, come and see if the Alexander Technique will work for you!

I often work with athletes (runners, cyclists and swimmers etc of any level

of ability) and horse riders to help them overcome specific patterns of

tension that cause muscular pain when doing their sport, and enable them to

find more enjoyment from their chosen activity. Athletes can improve their

performance without even trying!

I am qualified practitioner of the MBTI personality type indicator. Using this questionnaire, I help people find out more about themselves, how they see the world and interact with it. This is amazingly useful for understanding our relationships with other people, both at work and at home, and for seeing our 'blind spots' and learning to overcome them. The MBTI questionnaire takes about 20 to 30 minutes to fill in. Once completed, we meet to discuss and verify the results. It is particularly useful on leaving school, college or university when you are not sure which career to follow, equally valid in mid-life when you might be considering a career change, or if you are returning to work after a break. It is also really helpful for relationship issues as it helps both parties to understand how the other one ticks and sees the world, which can be in very different but equally valid ways. The results can be very enlightening and help to explain things like "why do I tend react like that?" or "how is it that my husband and I always disagree about certain things?" or "I wish my boss was more supportive of me" etc etc... the list is endless!

I work with individuals, couples and groups using the MBTI to help clients gain a clearer understanding of self and others. Finding out about your MBTI type helps you take responsibility for who you are, and enables you to gain control, awareness and balance in your life.

Using TTEAM I work with people and their horses to overcome behavioural

problems and help them form more connected and effective partnerships. TTEAM

works as a re-education method for horses to help them overcome fears and

tension patterns and become more flexible, coordinated and balanced. It is

also useful for speeding up recovery after injury.

Through a combination of TTEAM and the Alexander Technique for horse riders

I work with both horse and rider to help them work together more effectively

using non-dominance and understanding. Postural improvements and less

tension in both horse and rider result, as well as a greater empathy

between the two.
